INTRINSIC Semiconductor Acquires AMDS in Sweden

DULLES, Va.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Oct. 12, 2004— INTRINSIC Semiconductor, a privately held manufacturer of wide bandgap materials, today announced that it is has acquired Advanced Micro Device Solutions AB (Kista, Sweden). AMDS is a privately funded company currently sampling radio-frequency (RF), power and sensor components based on patented state-of-the-art silicon carbide (SiC) technology.

Dr. Cengiz Balkas, INTRINSIC President and CEO stated, "The strategic acquisition of AMDS allows INTRINSIC to have an organic presence in Europe; a key market for the future growth of our business. AMDS allows INTRINSIC to immediately offer a portfolio of discrete SiC device products. This acquisition is a vital step for INTRINSIC in order to leverage our existing core SiC materials technology into expanding device markets. Additionally, AMDS' patented technologies further improve upon INTRINSIC's distinct intellectual property position. With the recent announcement of our gallium nitride (GaN) epitaxial services business, INTRINSIC now offers a full array of complementary wide bandgap materials and device solutions."

"Our team is very pleased to be joining INTRINSIC and look forward to continuing our efforts in developing the industry's highest-performing SiC devices," said Bengt-Olof Larsson, Chairman of AMDS. Dr. Chris Harris, Technical Director AMDS, added, "We are excited to have access to internal SiC substrates, epitaxy, which together with our comprehensive applications engineering effort will enable technically disruptive RF, power and sensor components. INTRINSIC also provides the ideal platform to advance our device activities in the US market."

AMDS, renamed INTRINSIC Semiconductor AB, will become a wholly owned European subsidiary of INTRINSIC.
